Space Coast Parent
Rebrand for a monthly local Florida parenting magazine.
This magazine moved to the Gannett Design Studio as part of the Florida Today transition. As part of the move, the editors decided to take advantage of the new design staff to rebrand. This included a name change and a full redesign.

What I did
I worked with Space Coast Parent's editor, Sharon, and local cover photographer, Amanda Stratford, to craft an engaging and colorful new design concept for this popular informative local monthly parenting magazine.
The redesign was conceptualized using real content. We planed the production workflow to allow for the constraints of design being located in a different state than the content team.
Before
after
Ongoing Monthly Production
I designed the first two issues to get the process worked out. I created a working design system with styles, reusable elements, templates for InDesign. This system was moved into the CCI production system a few months later.
Ongoing I art directed the design and production of inside pages by my designers. I also conceptualized and designed the cover each month.
Takeaway
I really enjoyed this little magazine, it was fun to art direct, and I loved designing the covers. I often designed 10 covers with different photos from the cover shoot to find just the right one.
If I could have changed anything about this project it would have been the budget. Due to the cutbacks at the time in the news business, it was printed on newsprint and we had to use a lot of free or provided art.
When I left the Design Studio at the end of 2013, I handed it off to my replacement. It went out of production a few years later.
